Literature Text

On a Saturday morning
I rose early

To bake a ginger-pear cake
In the soft light;

To be eaten in thick, dense slices
Between sips of cold champagne
On a New Year's Eve (with you)

After cutting a square -to fit
In the round of the springform pan-

I made (from the leftover scraps)
Butterfly wings out of parchment paper

And with them: flew
Into your arms
